Cannabis Industry Security Training

Cannabis Industry Security Training

Legal Cannabis Operations are rapidly expending.  Businesses include retail stores, warehouses,  greenhouse, grow operations and transportation.

Due to banking and legal constraints, large quantities of cash are involved in the cannabis business as well.

Like many other specialty products, cannabis has a high theft potential.  It is high value, in high demand, easily transported, easy to sell and virtually impossible to trace.

While many dispensaries act like a laid back neighborhood store, in fact a core part of the business should focus on security.

Like every business, a reduction in loss is an increase in profit.

How much security training is necessary?  Generally speaking, there are two standards.  First, train what is required by the State.  Some States set a training standard, and that should be the MINIMUM that you train.

The second standard would the one set by your company.  According to a retired Federal Agent that is now a Cannabis Security Compliance Officer for a State, the Cannabis industry today is like the Wild West…things are moving quickly and there is not a great deal of clearly defined direction.

We live in a litigious society, could get you sued?

There are three types of incidents that can happen that may leave you open to liability:

An incident created by an outsider

An incident created by an employee

An incident that occurred on your property, but was UNRELATED to you.

There are FIVE basic things to protect:

Protect the employees

Protect the customers

Protect the cash

Protect the product

Protect the facility

Facility protection is accomplished utilizing six technologies:

Access Control

Intrusion Detection

Perimeter Security

Closed Circuit Television Systems

Lighting

Key Control

Finally, dispensaries have a distinct difference in the business community.  Although legal, not everyone in the community agrees with the legalization of marijuana, and therefore a solid knowledge of security and security systems is essential to running a problem free operation

The National Investigative Training Academy offers a EIGHT part training program designed specifically for Security Professionals working in the Cannabis Industry.

This training is designed for Security Supervisors and Managers, as well as anyone working within the Cannabis business environment.  It  is also useful for Security Officers and those hoping to be promoted in those positions.

The more knowledge you have, the more valuable you are.
